Reasons for Infertility

Most of the times a doctor can tell exactly what the reason or the reasons for infertility in a couple or an individual are. We say reasons because often there is not merely one problem hindering your fertility but a combination of two or more. Most of the times people believe that it is only the woman who is responsible wholly and solely for the inability of a couple to conceive a baby. But the truth is that both men and women can be equally responsible for it. If the male?s sperm count is low then he is the reason for infertility and no matter how good the female?s reproductive system may be they?ll find it difficult to conceive. Similarly if the female?s egg does not mature properly then even a high sperm count can?t do much to help the situation.

The point that is being made here is that most of the people overlook the most common reasons for infertility. People don?t want to talk about them because they feel embarrassed and think that others might ridicule them or make fun of them. Most of the people just want to blame some kind of a disease for this infertility rather than analyzing what is wrong with their lifestyle.

One of the most common reasons for infertility is cigarette smoking. What a lot of people don?t realize is that cigarette is not just harmful for your lungs but for the rest of your body?s organs too. Cigarette reduces the body?s stamina, sperm count and can also cause harm to a women?s ovaries. But most of the people are shy to talk about it with their friends or relatives or even their doctors. Just because they are addicted, they keep telling themselves that the true reasons for infertility lies somewhere else and not in the cigarette that is smoking them away slowly.

The increasing workloads and competition has started to eat into our time so much that we sleep less, we cook less at home and therefore end up eating junk food. This high on oil, fats, calories and cholesterol diet has led to increase in obesity related diseases like never before. But again, as is the case with cigarettes, people want to believe that obesity or lack of physical workout is not the reason for infertility. Obesity in women can severely reduce the chances of conceiving. But even women are not ready to believe that this could be a reason for infertility. Here the problem is not with the eggs but because of the excessive body weight, the fallopian tubes and the entire reproductive system faces extra pressure and leads to early ejection of the egg, therefore preventing pregnancy.

It is a real pity that while most of the reasons for infertility can be treated with simple lifestyle changes, people often resist doing so. Yes, it is true that old habits die hard but sometimes we must kill our bad habits so that we don?t miss out on the best things in life.
