In many societies infertility is still considered to be a curse, more so for the women. Infertility is one of the most common reasons filed during divorces too. Women are solely regarded as the direct or indirect cause of it. Hence Infertility and causes of infertility in women becomes all the more important as we observe not only the medical aspect of it, but also the socio-political implication.
Doctors observe the patient for a term of one year and her inability to become pregnant after having unprotected sex during that term is considered Primary infertility. Such a person has had no pregnancy history in the past. However if a person has been successfully been impregnated in the past but cannot conceive now, the condition is referred to as secondary infertility. However, in about one-third of the cases the causes of infertility in women remain unknown. The most common causes of infertility in women are the following; inability to ovulate or produce eggs, blocked fallopian tube or damage to uterus. Other causes of infertility in women include genetic problem, which is not very common. Often a female body can be allergic to sperms and can reject and destroy any that has entered in her body.
Ovulation is however the most common of all where there the women is unable to release eggs at the right time or at all, leading to the confusion on what is the right time to conceive. This leads to infrequent periods. Ovulation disorder can occur due to Hormonal imbalance, Hyperthyroidism, Hypothyroidism, Vitamin or Mineral deficiency, Low or High body weight, Chronic Illness and Luteal Phase Defect.
Female reproductive system have an intricate nature and are complex, hence here are many causes of infertility in women which can primarily be related to fallopian tubes, the uterus and the ovaries. Some factors leading to this condition are Fibroids, Endometriosis, Pelvic Adhesions, Ovarian Cysts, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Decreased Ovarian Reserves and premature Ovarian Failure.
Often the muscular wall of the uterus grows abnormally which may appear singly or in groups are called Fibroids. Fibroid further interferes with embryo implantation and causes miscarriages.
Endometriosis impairs the tissue which forms a lining to the uterus and challenges the ability to conceive by forming scar tissues which compromises the normal function of fallopian tube.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition where the patient suffers from infrequent and heavy menstrual period, obesity, hirsutisum, acne and increases in testosterone. This decreases the number of times a woman will ovulate during her lifetime thereby effecting fertility.
Pelvic adhesions are scars or which develop around the tubes, ovaries, bowel and the uterus that impact fertility by interfering with fallopian tube.
Ovarian cyst is yet another of the causes of infertility in women which is involves a sac formation in the ovary thereby affecting the fertility if they interfere with ovulation process.
Decreased ovarian reserve is physiological condition in the pre-menopausal years which is considered very normal. Here the production of eggs decrease leading to the elevating of FSH hormone and therefore overlapping of menstrual cycles.
Premature ovarian failure is a condition linked with the onset of menopause. The causes of this problem are mostly unknown but id often associated with chromosome, immune and thyroid disorders.
The above mentioned are the most common causes of infertility in women. Today the causes of infertility in women no longer remain and in curable curse. There is cure to it, and the patient can go on to live a healthy life.
