Infertility is a very delicate issue as it involves not only the medical side, but also the traumatic psychological aspect for many couple. Infertility compromises the ability (or inability) of conception in a man or woman, and is treated as a disease. It is a very distressing situation as the conjugal relation is compromised and the partners are not able to perform, probably one of the most important acts of human life, Reproduction. And for this very reason it is very important to find out and treat the causes for infertility.
Causes for infertility can be many, as conception is not dependent on any one thing. Reproduction is a very complex process and is like a puzzle where the missing of any one part results in the falling apart of others. For example the male needs to produce healthy sperms and the female, healthy eggs for successful ovulation. A lot is dependent on the traversing of the sperm through the fallopian tube and reaching the female egg to form a successful zygote. However if the fallopian tube is blocked, the sperm can not pass through and can never form a zygote. Yet another one of the causes for infertility is the inability to form a good quality embryo even as all the above processes are successful. For a pregnancy to be successful and last its full, term the Embryo should be healthy. Obesity and high cholesterol levels are common causes which lead to inability of both male and female to successfully mate. The above mentioned are one of the most common causes of infertility.
Sperm disorders are the most common causes for infertility in male. Low sperm count in a man is one of the most common disorders where the man is not able to adequately produce sperms. Sperms are very delicate and fragile hence most of them get destroyed even before reaching the female ovum. Hence the male body ejaculates millions of sperms in a female during communion. The more the sperms the better is the chance of female pregnancy. The sperm motility is also one of the many causes of infertility which refers to the inability of the sperms to move as fast as they should inside a female body. Sometimes the sperm cells do not have proper shape to ovulate the female egg.
Like males, females too have varied causes for infertility. Anovulation is one of them where the female can?t ovulate or, release egg. Polycystic ovary disease is the most common cause of it. Another of the causes of infertility in woman can be owed to the inability of the fallopian tubes to carry eggs to the uterus. This condition is called endometriosis and it involves a scar tissue. Such endometriosis lesion can be found in pelvic cavity, ovaries, fallopian tubes or the pelvic sidewall leading to infertility.
One of the major causes for infertility in both men and woman is Age. In women, fertility declines after 35 years of age and ends at menopause. Similarly in males too, the fertility declines after 45years of age. These figures however vary from person to person.
Science and Medicine have however found alternatives to get over this disease or at least has shown patients alternatives to subdue infertility.
