Cause of infertility

In today?s fast tracked world we have forgotten the way to healthy life. Therefore we face a lot of lifestyle related issues which we have created ourselves, in person or as a community. The theory of causality applies on Infertility too which we can say, in many ways, we have created for ourselves. Many people attribute genetic or biological defaults to be the cause of infertility, whereas if sources are to be believed, most of the causes of infertility are self inflicted cases.

Poor Dietary habits are the first cause of infertility. At an individual level, we should take care and precaution of the diet we are having. We should always have a balanced diet with all the nutrients in right quantity. Studies suggest that most infertility patients lack antioxidants in their body which comes directly from fruits and vegetables. Also it is found that patients that the semen count and motility increases with the intake of VITAMIN C and VITAMIN E respectively. So a balanced diet is what we need to abdicate the first cause of infertility.

The second factor or cause of infertility can be owed to lack of exercise. It has been noticed that people with high or low body weight are more prone to be infertile. Also, people suffering from high cholesterol problem are also susceptible to infertility.

Smoking is perhaps the biggest enemy of sperms and ovum and one of the biggest cause of infertility today. In men it has stricken with vengeance by drastically reducing the sperm count and also genetically mutating the sperm cell. The sperm therefore becomes abnormal and it leaves a mutagenic effect on it. In women it heightens the risk of irregular menstrual cycles, miscarriages, premature birth and low-weight newborn.

Likewise, alcohol too affects the sperm count in men and in females it heightens the risk of birth defect. If the quantity of alcohol in a mother?s blood is high, t can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Drugs like Marijuana, Heroine and Cocaine too impacts the sperm count adversely. For pregnant women drug abuse can prove fatal for both the baby and oneself. Retardation may appear in the baby, hence recreational uses of drugs should be stopped while conceiving and during pregnancy as it is in many countries an important cause of infertility..

Apart from the personal level, we have degraded the whole environment as a community too. The ability to conceive is seriously impaired by the various chemicals and toxins around us. Abortions, mutations and birth defects can be caused by such chemicals and toxins which we can find in pesticides; for example Dibromochloropropane which also flows through our food chain and into us. Ethylene oxide used in sterilization of medical equipment can also have similar effects. The threat involved in medical equipments is more serious when we come in contact with various radiations like the chromography which significantly alters the sperm production and causes various ovarian disorders. Lead is yet another substance which is a cause of infertility which we have flooded into our environment and is very deadly as it can cause abortion in women and teratospermia in men which is abnormal sperm production. Lead is considered to be a abortifacient. Hence we see how only through little precaution and self discipline we can change ourselves, our homes and our environment thereby giving our children a better place for living.
